Question #3:
I am trying to calculate the EPS of the ADR China Mobile Ltd. (NYSE:CHL) stock by looking at its published financial statements.
CHL's interim reports come in intervals of six months. The most recent interim reports were for the periods ending 6-30-10 and 12-31-09. Thus, I am assuming that the most recent twelve months' of published earnings covers a twelve month period from 7/1/09 to 6/30/10.
I am looking at the interim income statement reports from MSN Money. The diluted normalized EPS as reported for the second half of 2009 is 2.94. For the first half of 2010, the result is 2.84.
Therefore, shouldn't the trailing twelve months' EPS of CHL be 2.84 + 2.94 = 5.78? Just to remark, I am not trying to find a forward EPS of any sort. I simply want the ttm EPS.
I'm sorry if I sound dense. I know that this should be an easy calculation, but I am confused as to why Yahoo! Finance shows an ttm EPS of 4.25. Where are they finding the earnings figures for that number?

Question #20:
How do I find out the name of a company on the NYSE so I can invest in it? For example: Rather than invest in ABC Pencil Company or 123 Pencil Company suppose I would like to invest in a company that manufactures graphite, or cedar wood, or erasers, or yellow paint.
So how would I find out the name of a company that produces the components of a particular product? CAN I even invest in that type of company or is that a different business like an import business or something I can't invest in. I guess I'm asking how to track down the names of companies that provide a particular product. I have the name of a product that is grown overseas. It is a part of a product that is sold here in the US. It's possible that this product may be grown in the US in the future. I would like to invest in it. And if I can find out the name of a company then how do I find out what it's stock symbol is? Thanks in advance to all those savvy investors that take time to answer.
